Ingredients

  • 2 large Heirloom tomatoes
  • 4 thick slices Sourdough or Country bread
  • 2 cloves Garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Flaky sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
  • 0.25 cup Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Balsamic glaze(optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice the heirloom tomatoes into thick rounds and place them on a paper towel to drain excess moisture for 5 minutes.

  2. 2

Toast the bread slices in a toaster or under a broiler until golden brown and firm.

  3. 3

While the bread is still hot, peel the garlic cloves and rub the cut side of the garlic vigorously over the surface of each slice.

  4. 4

Lightly brush the garlic-rubbed bread with a thin layer of extra virgin olive oil or a small amount of butter.

  5. 5

Arrange the tomato slices over the bread, overlapping them slightly to cover the entire surface.

  6. 6

Sprinkle a generous pinch of flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper over the tomatoes.

  7. 7

Tear the fresh basil leaves by hand and scatter them over the top of the tartines.

  8. 8

Drizzle with the remaining olive oil and an optional touch of balsamic glaze before serving immediately.
