Ingredients
- 10 pieces White bread slices
- 0.25 cup Whole milk
- 1.5 cups Sugar
- 1.5 cups Water
- 0.5 teaspoon Cardamom powder
- 1 teaspoon Rose water(optional)
- 2 cups Ghee or Oil
- 2 tablespoons Milk powder
- 1 pinch Saffron strands(optional)
- 1 tablespoon Slivered pistachios(optional)
Instructions
- 1
Prepare the sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water together for 10 minutes until slightly sticky, then add cardamom powder, saffron, and rose water.
- 2
Trim the brown edges off the bread slices and discard them or save for breadcrumbs.
- 3
Tear the white part of the bread into small pieces and pulse in a blender to make fine crumbs.
- 4
Transfer crumbs to a bowl, add milk powder, and gradually add milk one tablespoon at a time to knead into a smooth, soft dough.
- 5
Grease your palms with a little ghee and divide the dough into small, smooth balls without any cracks.
- 6
Heat ghee or oil in a pan over medium-low heat and deep fry the balls until they are evenly golden brown.
- 7
Drain the fried balls on a paper towel for 30 seconds, then drop them directly into the warm sugar syrup.
- 8
Let the jamuns soak in the syrup for at least 30 minutes before garnishing with pistachios and serving.
